30 Days of Me: Non-Fiction Book

With under two hours to spare...

So today's post was a non-fiction book. Basically to me, that says autobiography. And since I already chose "Scar Tissue" as my favorite book, I have to go with a wrestler autobiography.

(this is kind of why I didn't worry about posting today. However, I dare you to not close this window).

The book I'm talking about is called Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story. I've read a lot of wrestler autobiographies, from Stone Cold Steve Austin to Ric Flair, but this one was by far the best.

I think it translates so well because it is truly a book anyone can read. It is mostly about his life and when he talks about wrestling he does so in a way that anyone can understand it.

It's a great look at the life of a person who grew up in a wrestling family, struggled to get started in Mexico, battled personal demons for most of his career, but finally made it to the top.

Sadly, it's also a story of a life that was lost in November of 2005 in what is probably the saddest day in wrestling history. In a time when professional wrestlers are dying at a rate that is actually scary, Eddie's death was the most sad when he died of a heart attack.

If you have made it this far, I would actually say take a chance. Pick it up. You might enjoy it.

  1. Way to squeak in there last minute. I can't say I'll be adding this book to my list - but everyone has their interests and hobbies.

    My dad and bro have read countless books about hockey and baseball. I've never been that passionate about a sport or an athlete - not enough to read a book about them.

  2. i'm not sure that i'd read a wrestler's bio, but i went through a kick where i read a lot of ballet dancers' books. it's fun to read about something you love from the perspective of someone on the inside

  3. I can't believe you've been able to post every single day. It took me two weeks to get to the 7th day.

  4. First off- props for your dedication.

    Second off- do I get any bonus points for actually knowing who all of the wrestlers you mentioned are? (FINALLY!!! Watching wrestling with my brother for 2 years has paid off. He'll be proud of me)

    Third off- do I get bonus points for knowing he died of a heart attack? Because I read it on TMZ, but still. I knew. ;)

    @Jsjov:
    Thanks for not hating on me. I was worried there for a second.

    @Jaime:
    A week of posts in two weeks? Not bad for someone that used to post once a year ;)

    @Sara:
    You get 20 bonus points for your comments
