No teasing. Just straight to the point. "Scar Tissue" by Anthony Kiedis is my favorite book.Actually, there isn't much competition as the only books I have ever read are those I was forced to read in school, wrestler autobiographies and fight club.
However, this book is great. From the up one minute, down the next lifestyle to seeing the background on some of my favorite songs. This book has everything for me and it never disappoints.
I can't even go in to much detail about it if you haven't read it. You should just read it.
I love musician biographies. You should read Russell Brand's My Booky Wook... I think you'll like it.

ReplyDeleteI own this book - and you are correct it is awesome. I heard Showtime or HBO were working on something with him based on it. I hope that happens. It's pretty raw at times - with the drugs and the crazy childhood. A must read for any RHCP fan.
ReplyDeleteI'm such a book nerd though, I'm not sure this would crack my top 10 (I read a lot of books). But I love that you picked this. But you should try reading more - you'd be surprised how relaxing it is. I couldn't live without a book.

I would totally read this. I really want to read this. But you see- I have this BB who said he'd mail it to me, and I got all hyped up and excited and then nothing. It's so weird. I think this BB knows how much I adore him and if he lived closer I would totally kidnap him to be my personal DJ but yeah. Nothing.

I have wanted to read this book for ages, but I keep forgetting to buy it..plus, last time I went to Borders they didn't have any in stock. :( I have an idea-- spend your weekend photocopying every single page and mail it to me? hahah kidding of course! hopefully I'll buy it soon because I have heard great things about it. :)

Cool - I think you'd like Chuck Klosterman's books. Killing Yourself to Live is amazing - and his other books of essays are quite entertaining. For me they were a quick read - and since I assume you're literate (being a journalism student) my guess is they'd be a quick read for you as well.
ReplyDeleteHe writes about music and pop culture is general. He has a really good essay in one of his books about the media that I think you'd appreciate.
FYI: Google tells me the show will be called Spider and Son, and is set to be on HBO. It will be based on his childhood with his dad in LA. Not sure how fictionalized it will be (character names etc). Hopefully it ends up happening.
