I kind of always had an appreciation for Jay Z. He was never one of my favorite artists, but I liked what I heard. However, Linkin Park has always been up there and is on my short list of bands I have yet to see live, but NEED to. So when it was announced that they were doing some kind of collaboration, I got excited at the potential.
Then I heard the first (and I'm presuming only) single, "Numb/Encore." This was before I was heavily into downloading, so I circled the release date on my calendar and counted down the days till it came out.
I worked at Dairy Queen when I was in high school (the time period of this release) and in the same parking lot we had a Sam Goody. So I left for work early, bought the cd and listened to it in my car before I clocked in. I just sat there and smiled. Smiled at how beautifully the sounds came together. I'm a big fan of well done mashups, and taking into consideration that these guys professionally came in there and did it with Jay Z actually getting in the booth and re-recording his verses, the results were amazing.
The only thing sad about it is that it was short. Only six tracks in length, but thankfully there was enough in there to keep you satisfied.
I will say this, usually when a cd comes with a DVD I just skip right over it. But this was one of the most well produced music DVD's I have ever seen as well.
So go back and rock out/jam out with me.
I really, really love that album.
ReplyDeleteThis was one of the few Linkin Parks I didn't get in to. Separately I like both Jay Z and Linkin Park but together I was a mehhhh. It's not bad, but I guess I was hoping for more.
ReplyDeleteI just love them together. Those are still some of my most played songs on my Ipod.
ReplyDeleteOMFG---I am a HUGE Jigga fan. :) My kids know Jay Z songs by name. Livi was brushing the dirt off her shoulder at age 2. Jackson can bop along to Jigga What. I will admit- I didn't buy this. I wanted too but then wondered how often I'd pull it out to jam to it. BUT I highly recommend Jay Z's unplugged album. Seriously. Check out:

I stopped listening Linkin Park a longggg time ago...Hybrid Theory just reminds me of sophomore year in high school..hahha. Even though I hate rap music I have to agree that Jay Z does some amazing collaborations with other artists.

ReplyDeleteAs do I :)
@jeanette:
you are really hard to please, haha. Usually when two good artists come together, the results aren't that great. But for me it was, at least this time around
@Cassie:
Yea, it was good to go back and play them again. Classic stuff.
@Sara:
You know him on a nickname basis? Haha, I guess that's how tight you two are. He has some hits in his day, that's for sure. And he's still going.
@Lisa:
Yea, their latest release wasn't spectacular. And by "other artists" are you referring to when he worked with Chris Martin :)

I friggin LOVE Numb/Encore.
ReplyDeleteLinkin Park is pretty dece. In the End came out when I was in 5th grade. I just remember that cause Mom and I always listened to it in the car.
ahh i very fondly remember this cd. it was one of the first times i was introduced to the concept of "mashing" and now i'm a huge fan of artists like girl talk that do exclusively just that.
ReplyDeletemy fave was big pimpin/papercut
@Kayla:
ReplyDeleteMan, I don't know if I could think all the way back to 5th grade haha. But that entire cd came out when I was a freshman or around that time, so different points in our life ;)
@JSjov:
Yea, Girl Talk is amazing. There is also two cds I'm going to have on here in the future that are similar so look out for that
YES, I was referring to Mr. Martin...you know my music tastes much too well. ;)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I am listening to the link you posted...how is it that I haven't heard this song before!?!?!? LOVE IT! At first I was thinking it would have just been a link to "Lost" but I am loving this new one! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been subjected to Jay Z for years...my brother loves him and I suppose he's grown on me.
ReplyDelete=)
@Lisa:
ReplyDeleteHaha I figured you knew Lost!, but Beach Chair is amazing as well
@Melissa:
Of all the crappy rappers out there, Jay Z is not one of them
I really didn't like this album if i am honest. I loved Numb/Encore but all the other songs just wasn't that good. I am a major linkin park fan and I am also a fan of Jay-Z but together just doesn't sit with me that well. but like i said thats just my opinion
