Mowing the yard.
That's what I think of when I think of this cd. It came out during that transition from middle school (junior high) to high school. It had that sound that was pretty dominant during that time, not really nu-metal like Korn or System of a Down, but not what you were used to hearing on the radio (this was the release that came before the cd that contained "The Reason" that got way too much airplay).
I had my little portable cd player (again, pre-iPod days) and this is one of the ones I used to jam to while doing my yard work (for trivia purposes, this and Eminem). It had just the right amount of energy. The instruments did their part and I could understand what the guys were saying, which is always a plus.
Honestly, because of the way their career has gone, it's kind of embarrassing to admit liking Hoobastank. But as I'm listening to this cd, it not only is good to me because of nostalgia, but it actually was a damn good release.
Some of the songs went over my head at the time, I just liked to rock out. But now, I can appreciate some of the lyrics in songs like "Running Away" (And when I get close, you turn away
There's nothing that I can do or say So now I need you, to tell me the truth You know I'd do that for you)
Ok, now I'm listening to it more, maybe it's more nostalgia than greatness. But it certainly was a great time.
OK seriously- this is one cd that I don't own. (SHOCKER) But it's not because I didn't want it- but because NOBODY anywhere around me sells Hoobastank. To this day. And back before iTunes was everywhere I was pretty much stuck with stores around here to carry it or be willing to special order and nobody would. Bitches. But I liked all of these that you posted and it makes me frustrated all over again because I have none of it. You know what album brings back mems for me? Silverchair's Neon Ballroom. I LOVE that album. I'm jamming out while mopping floors because that's the exciting life I lead lately. ;)
ReplyDeleteI LOVED this cd, and then then got so sick of them when the next cd came out and got so over played.
ReplyDeleteBut this cd was magical haha
I'm going to 30 Seconds to Mars too!!!!!!! And I don't know about Angels and Airwaves (never heard of them) or Greenday, but I'm also going to see 3 Days Grace, Chevelle and Seether on May 5th and I can't wait! Also I heard Green day is playing with Shinedown, do you know if that's true? If so I'll have to try and make it!!
ReplyDeletedefinitely a great middle school throwback!
ReplyDeleteI used to love Hoobastank.
ReplyDeleteI had a burned CD where there was a song by Hoobastank followed by a song by The Tea Party and my dad would always say "Hooba stank the tea party." Yeah I have a cool dad.
Good post :)
@Sara:
ReplyDeletejammin out while moppin floors is what ALL the cool kids do. I think you should definitely get this cd... if you can get it for free.
@jeanette:
yea, haha, that was a point I tried to make. I kind of lost it after they bombarded the radio. But magical was a good word to describe it
@Jaime:
This might finally be the time we meet up, my friend wants to see 30STM and the fact that you are going means I might just have to. I think Shinedown would probably play with the Chevelle crew, cuz AFI is playing with Green Day. We need to meet up before I potentially move from this place
@JSjov:
middle school, what fun times
@Kayla:
you definitely have a cool dad
Wow this does take me back! Kudos to Sara for pulling out the Silverchair.
ReplyDeleteWow I remember the boys at school used to go crazy over Hoobastank's tracks. Good times.
ReplyDelete@Chicken:
ReplyDeleteit sounded like you said she had pulled out a chair, you know, how when someone goes to sit down and they fall on their ass... something Sara would do I bet
@Andhari:
I don't remember people going crazy about it, I wish I would have went to your school!
I used to like Hoobastank, but your right the overkill on the radio made me want to change the station every time it came on. Radio stations around here a fantastic at doing that to perfectly good music. I will have to check out the CD. =D Do you like O.A.R or The Postal Service too?
ReplyDeleteAnyway stopped by from Mr. C's blog and thought i would poke around a bit.
Unfortunately I can't listen to any Hoobastank song without cringing. They were just way too overplayed over here. :( But thanks for bringing back some good memories by mentioning them! :)
ReplyDelete@Siren:
ReplyDeleteFeel free to poke :)
I only know one song by O.A.R. and I really like The Postal Service, good bands.
@Lisa:
Sorry if those good memories also brought cringe worthy ones haha
John Cena was on Jimmy Fallon the other day and I thought of you. At least, I hope that's how you spell his name. I'm really not sure.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that you bring back music that I have completely forgotten about.
I miss you my lovely Mr. O.
Yes, Mr.O- pulling out a chair to let someone fall IS something I would do. And you know you'd luagh. ;)
ReplyDeleteMy middle school mowing list:
ReplyDelete-Queen: Greatest Hits
-AC/DC: Back in Black
-Sum 41: All Killer No Filler
-Blink 182: Blink 182
-Eve 6: It's All In Your Head
-Linkin Park: Reanimation
Which, I suppose, shows my interesting taste in music back in the day.
(Sorry for the back post, I just thought I'd weigh in and missed this one)
