If I Didn't Know Myself Any Better, I Would Think I Was An Anberlin Fan

So j sent me this the other day and it almost inspired me to write a whole new post...

But for some reason I abandoned it. So if you ever want to hear my take on people like Zooey Deschanel vs. people like Megan Fox, hopefully that will come soon.

For now, I want to talk about my top 25.

What am I talking about? I'm talking about that little section in your iTunes playlists that lists the top 25 most played songs in your music library. My current top 25 is a little surprising, but understandable. Before I reveal it, here are some minor details you need to know.

*I have to update my iTunes library every once in a while. This can be due to a change in where I keep my music or I get OCD and go on an organizing spree. When this happens, it resets my play count. Being accurate, this is my top 25 most played since July 13, 2009.

*Some of these tracks are kind of cheaters. When I do my radio show, I try to see where a song ends. When it goes to the end of the track, it counts it as one play. So I've had to go back and forth with some songs and so the play count has been bumped up. But still, I think this is a pretty good idea of my top plays.

*I guess at some point, I went on an Anberlin kick. Which isn't bad, they are in my top ten definitely. But that is the only thing I don't think this list accurately reflects. I don't listen to them that much and there are other bands I probably listen to more. But still, this is a small window into what I listen to. A window that apparently reserved one corner exclusively for Anberlin.

Without further ado,

1. A Day to Remember - I'm Made of Wax Larry, What Are You Made Of?
2. Silversun Pickups - Substitution
3. Anberlin - The Haunting
4. Anberlin - Dismantle. Repair (from Lost Songs)
5. Taking Back Sunday - Lonely, Lonely
6. A Day To Remember - NJ Legion Iced Tea
7. Anberlin - Blame Me! Blame Me!
8. Death Cab for Cutie - What Sarah Said
9. Broadway - Don't Jump The Shark Before You Save The Whale
10. Paramore - Misguided Ghosts
11. Taking Back Sunday - Catholic Knees
12. Taking Back Sunday - Carpathia
13. Anberlin - Naive Orleans (from Lost Songs)
14. Death Cab for Cutie - Grapevine Fires
15. Death Cab for Cutie - Brothers On A Hotel Bed
16. Saosin - Changing
17. Taking Back Sunday - Cut Me Up Jenny
18. Anberlin - Breaking
19. Anberlin - Retrace
20. Anberlin - Feel Good Drag (New Surrender version)
21. A Day To Remember - Welcome To The Family
22. Paramore - All I Wanted
23. All Time Low - Damned If I Do Ya (Damned If I Don't)
24. Anberlin - Feel Good Drag (acoustic)
25. Anberlin - The Resistance

So that's my top 25 (my apologies for the ATL. I don't know what happened...)

I kind of just wanted to share that, but really I am interested in yours. Now, I know 25 is a lot to type, but feel free to share some highlights. Unless you don't have iTunes, then we're not friends.

(Edit: Of course we're still friends)

  3. Zooey Deschanel is the reason I have hope!

    I almost posted by top 25 but thought it was too obscure on one side, and too predictable on the other.

  4. Ummmm, I have never even heard of some of the bands/songs you listed. :/

    And, I'd love to believe that there are some guys out that who prefer girls like Zooey but somehow I doubt it...but maybe I'm just a pessimist.

    I liked this idea so I did a post myself. :)

  6. Hi- I think you have my iPod. Which is weird because I'm pretty sure I used it last night. ;) Now these are all in my top 40 with the exception of 1, 4, 9, 13, 15, 25. This is freaking me out just a bit. Because NOBODY, and I mean NOBODY likes anything I like. I have to beg people to go to shows with me. Hi- you need to come here to at least convince my friends I'm not a music reject. Thanks. :)

  7. Awesome list! I wasn't introduced to most of those bands till a few years ago when I met my man. But I love them all. I'm currently harboring a grudge against the city of Portland for selling out all the tickets for Muse and Silversun Pickups...I mean, didn't they know that I was expecting them to hold me a ticket?

  8. I've never listened to Anberlin. Definitely love TBS and Death Cab though.

    I love Zooey! I can't stop listening to the new She & Him album.

  9. @Nic:
    If she is going to be unavailable, at least it's to a great guy like Ben Gibbard. What a couple.

    @jeanette:
    Little secret? I was apologizing to you.

    I loved your list. I would honestly make a playlist out of that, perfect mix of songs I'm not that familiar with combined with songs I know by heart. Of course they were all great, but having Armor For Sleep and TBS made me smile :) (<--- like that)

    @Allison:
    This is me pleading with you to come back here and still post it (or post it on your own). Obscure + predictable makes one hell of a playlist. I mean, I look like an Anberlin freak in mine haha

    @Lisa:
    Check em out! I may send you some links. You may not like the A Day To Remember stuff, but maybe you will surprise me and totally punch some stuff haha.

    And honestly, I think there are more guys that would have that preference than the world thinks (me included)

    @JSjov:
    Recently added is where I usually click play it. But I still have to give love to my classics

    @Sara:
    So you didn't know the couple Anberlin songs? I need to slide those to you. And Brothers on A Hotel Bed is one of the best written songs I have ever come across (no surprise from Death Cab). I'm gonna send you this now:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZWZo-rnciE

    And I will have your iPod back to you soon ;)

    @Chicken:
    Most of the music I get, I get from other people. I love it though, because it makes you think of that person. And I love the city of Atlanta, I have been their more than a few times to see concerts. But they sold out of Muse tickets on me too and I held a small grudge, but I think I'm over it now (slightly).

    @Liz:
    I mean, obviously I would say this, but you should check em out. Especially if you love TBS, I think it can be easy to get into them (TBS is actually my favorite band so you would think there would be of them on this list).

    And your post about She & Him has got me listening to the first cd a lot lately :)

  11. ...i just noticed that she's only wearing a shirt and tights. she's half naked! maybe not the best photo choice for that caption, haha.

  12. @Melissa:
    I thought about taking them out to have a more thorough list, but that would be cheating :)

    I love "Pictures of You" and a while back I downloaded a Kings of Leon discography, but I never listened to it all. You inspired me to make a playlist of the KOL songs in your top 25. We'll see what happens.

    @JSjov:
    While I get the point of whoever made that pic, I get your point too.

    Touche.

  13. Nope- I don't have that Anberlin album. 'member we had this text convo and you were all like, "I'll get that to you". Yeah- you forgot. I'm waiting. :) Thank you for the youtube link- I loved it. Your rank as my #1 blog bestie is still intact.

  14. I can't decide if I want to share mine or not. Way back when, I horribly inflated my Top 25 (i.e., put them on repeat and fast forwarded to the end over and over), so it doesn't really capture my current music-ness....
