Under My Covers, Vol. 3 (updated)

So I really wanted to blog, but I couldn't figure out about what. I feel like a bunch of little things are happening (Russell Crowe playing Robin Hood -- they are making a Robin Hood?) but not enough for a post. So that's where that damn covers thing comes in handy, and at least it's not 4 hours ;)

But here are a few things:

*Does anyone do what I do with cd's and as soon as you buy them/download them you listen to them a few times and then go onto something else, but something will trigger it and you end up coming back to said cd? I do it all the time. I will be like "this cd is ok" and move on, then hear a song in a movie or someone will talk about it, I will go back to it and like it. The two cd's that I am currently going through this process with is Anberlin's "Cities" and taking it WAY back to Something Corporate's "Songs for Silent Movies." Not sure if the second one was an actual cd, but I downloaded it somehow...

*This week is looking good. I have a pizza date tomorrow where I will be getting my big kahuna from Brick Oven. Then on Wednesday I may have a partner in the studio. I like doing the show and everything, but it can get boring (and lonely) in there sometimes. To end the week? Beach trip.

*So I've begun to realize that my blog is very music related. I hope that's still cool with people. I think I am going to add a new weekly blog thing that will replace Flashback Friday. FF was cool, but it was starting to get hard looking back at stuff that is no longer going on. It may still make a few guest appearances though. But like I said, I am working a new weekly thing and soon you will all be guests in my house (courtesy of a great idea by Mr. Condescending)

*Lastly, my created fighter in the UFC game got knocked out today. After going 9-0. Ah, what are you gonna do?

On to the cover. This one, you will most likely know. But I heard it on the radio and I figured I would do something about it. Mainly because when it was going strong on the radio I wasn't deep into this and the whole point of the cover thing is to get people's opinions on it. I know one blogger's (she posted it one of hers a while ago) but I am curious what everybody else thinks. Especially when the cover is a rock band from today covering a slow 80's song. Song in question: Careless Whisper.

Original version by WHAM (or George Michael, whichever credit you prefer)

Cover version by Seether

*BONUS* -- More of a dance version cover with All Time Low, 3OH!3 & Juliet Sims
(thank you to jeanette for throwing this one in there)

Sidenote: what happened to Seether? Back in the day I would put them in the same category of Slipknot and System of a Down. Then they did the song with Amy Lee from Evanescence, this song, a cover of a Frank Sinatra song for iTunes and are touring with Nickelback. Things do change...

Oh, and I wasn't doing the random lyrics with music posts, but eff it. I'm bringing it back.

Random lyric of the day:

this is to a girl
who got into my head
with all the pretty things she did
hey
ya know
you keep me up in bed
this is to a girl
who got into my head
with all these fucked up things i did
hey
maybe
baby you could keep me up in bed
my konstanine

  1. So glad you will do the guest task!

    I wish I could get into more music but I'm really bad at it. I listen to hendrix, zeppelin, stp, smashing pumpkins and that's about it.

    Maybe you can recommend some modern stuff anything good and similar?

  2. I'm so glad you posted this! I LOVE the Seether version of this song, and people have been telling me to listen to the original and I just now got around to it. It was awesome, and oh, I just love the 80's video!

  3. I like stp and smashing pumpkins, hendrix and zeppelin.

    Anything you might say would be similar to any of them nowadays?

    Ps - I'm excited to see your guest task!

  4. @Mr C:
    haha, it seems like your comment thing was messing up. It's like everyone was slightly altered just a little bit. good entertainment on my Monday night. Anyways, that is great music in itself. Crazy trivia: I actually don't like smashing pumpkins and NIN for that matter. I don't know what it is, but those two bands do nothing for me except for a few songs. Everything else in that genre I am down for. Speaking of which, I find it as a personal challenge to find bands from today to match that style. And you should get a response in a few days time. This deserves some research.

    @Jaime:
    yea, you were the blogger I was talking about. Glad you could finally see the original. And aren't 80's videos the best :)

  5. George Michael is my guilty pleasure listening so I can't bring myself to say the Seether version is better but, it isn't bad. Again, I don't think the singer is very good but I'm not that much into the 90's rock anyway.

  6. Lurve the new layout! Much more asthetically pleasing than Crowe in green Robin Hood tights.

    And George was my first man-crush. I didn't leave my room for two days when Wham broke up. I also had no idea he was gay for an embarrassingly long time.

  7. Alright, I do like the Seether version, but I like All Time Low feat. 30h!3 and Juliett Simms better... no fear though, it's on your cd because I used it as a title song a while back.

    But yeah, I pretty much love anything Juliett Simms does so I'm a big fan of that version.

  8. I like the new blog layout. Although you can't really see the grey type on the banner. This blog layout is a lot brighter and happier feeling.

  9. @Teh:
    at least you don't think it's bad. And everyone has their own guilty pleasure. I have mine, but will reveal them at a later date

    @sas:
    thanks for the layout love. And yea, a green tights Rowe is not something I think the world is ready for. And I would probably act the same way if they said Coldplay broke up, so I can feel you on that

    @jeanette:
    noted and added

    @natalie:
    yea, there a couple little things here and there, but for the most part I like it. But yea, it does seem a little happier, right?

  11. Sorry I was so slow getting to this post, Mr O. I feel so bad about the neglect! Forgive me?

    I have to say that I was really impressed by the Seether cover. While nothing beats George Michael's boofy-haired awesomeness, I think Seether managed to inject a much more serious feel into an otherwise cheesy (in a good way!) song. Even though 'new'-style rock isn't my thing at all, I still think they did a great job. The version Jeanette mentioned made me laugh so much (sorry, gorgeous girl!) but it was fun to hear another take on the song all the same. Thanks for sharing!

    (Still trying to find proper time to listen to the show but am barely able to cook myself a decent dinner right now! Sorry for the delay and know that I'm thinking of you. Love to you dear friend.)

  12. You're perfectly fine to write about music- especially when your musical tastes are fantastic.

    I have a friend who loves researching new music. We will sit and listen to new music for hours, just discovering new bands and new music. I find that some of the best nights consist of chilling out with him by my computer.

    I checked out the Seether cover. Nice!

  13. Ooh! Interesting one! I only really enjoy the George Michael version when it's 2am in the morning, I've had way too many cocktails and I love just about everyone in the entire universe ... then it's great to sing along to!

    The Seether version was surprisingly good, although I'm really not that familiar with a lot of their stuff tbh.

    I still haven't made up my mind about the Juliett Simms cover, think I need to listen to it again.

    So for now I'm going to have to say ... the original probably just about clinches it. Simply because I have a lot of slightly wobbly but happy memories associated with it :P
