*I stole the idea for the title of this blog from someone's show on our college radio station. I just wanna say that I can't take credit for it.
So, as you can see, I came up with a new idea for a post. This won't be a daily thing, but just rather whenever I get the inspiration. It's pretty self explanatory what it is, just showcasing some awesome covers. Since there is literally a million out there, I will probably use this whenever I get blogger's block.
But what better way to start off than with one of the greatest songs ever. Not one of the greatest rock songs or any genre defining term, but just plain greatest songs ever.
I am talking about "Wish You Were Here"
Original Version by Pink Floyd
Cover Version by Circa Survive
What do you think? Did they do it justice? Did they butcher it? Make it better? Obviously I like it, but I'm curious as to what you think...
it was ok. not great though. i think the lead singer actually sings it a bit weak.
ReplyDeleteI usually have a pretty hard time deciding between covers and originals because they ball have so much to offer. But I am a sucker for cover songs, I have CDs worth of them on my iPod so if you ever need any ideas!
ReplyDeleteI can't click them at work. On a side note your new profile picture is freaking me out. Not is an "oh my god this freak is going to climb latters and look in little kids windows" freaky, more like The Ring freaky. If that makes sense. If not it's 8 AM and I'm trying to cut down on my caffiene in-take. =)
ReplyDeleteAbout the comment approval - DAMN THE MAN SAVE THE EMPIRE!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. I think I have to agree with Tennyson on this one. But then again, most of the music I listen to is pre-1990.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fucking fantastic idea for a feature, Mr O! It's short and oh-so-sweet. More, more, more please!
@TeH:
ReplyDeletethat's the kind of feedback I was looking for. Like I said, obviously I like it, or I wouldn't have posted it, but criticism is always great. Thanks for your input.
@jeanette:
I figure you would. I honestly thought while I was putting this together that if I keep this up you are going to know most of these. Feel free to do this if you ever get blogger's block as well.
@Natalie:
I'm just gonna have to be straight up honest. I have no idea what you are talking about, haha. Here's why: I don't think I put up a "new" picture, but i hope that I don't freak you out in a sneaking in on little kids way. Hope that coffee helps you this morning ;)
@the girl:
thanks for your praise! You shall get more, like you said little short and sweet posts. And who knows, maybe I will stumble across one you enjoy. Maybe.
i am a complete purist when it comes to floyd. and imitation is not flattery. it's just lazy.
ReplyDeletesing your own bloody songs! right am off to get coffee and chill out.
eh, I thought it was ok. Didn't really dig the lead singers voice though. Was it David Glimour on vocals in the original? He had a great voice!
ReplyDelete@sas:
ReplyDeleteI can understand that, I just recently found a cover of a song from my favorite band and i HATED it. But it seems that you don't like the imitation genre, but hopefully in one of these posts can change your mind
@Tirader:
Hey man, thanks for taking the time to click it at least. I'm not really sure names, but I do the "original" video I posted was really good. Like I've said to everyone else, i'm glad to get differing opinions and maybe one day a song will get a thumbs up
Hmm ... I didn't love or hate either version tbh, but then I may be the only Brit who doesn't "get" what's so good about Pink Floyd anyway :/
ReplyDeleteThis is a cool idea though ... looking forward to seeing what else you give us to listen to
Thanks for stopping by the other day, this is a great idea for a recurring theme because cover songs are interesting if not always good...
ReplyDelete@GI:
ReplyDeleteMan, i have people coming from everywhere, but a Brit is the first (I think). Thanks for your opinion, and I hope you do check out some more.
@Eric:
exactly, interesting is a great way to describe it. Every once in a while (a good while) they are really good. Hope you enjoy reading everything else.
I read your most recent post (Garden State) without realizing that this is a series/theme...I completely love the idea! Can't wait to see what else you come up with. :)
