We now return to our regularly scheduled blogging...

What a week. I feel like I have been tired for all of it. I have put a lot of time in the studio though - my "job" involves listening to the cds that different companies send us and see if they are good or not - and I have been taking care of that after slacking last week. But even last night, I went to bed sorta early and still felt really tired all week. Oh well.

First mini class is over. Well, it will be when I hand this project in tomorrow. The class was newspaper editing and design. We had to put together an entire front page and I was pretty happy to get a 93 on it. Then she handed us our average in the class and mine was an 89. I was like C'MON!!! So basically this thing I am turning in tomorrow is make or break. Let's hope to make it...

We were sposed to go see the midnight showing of Transformers on Tuesday. Apparently, everybody else wanted to also as when we got there it was sold out. Made another attempt the next night, but after spending three hours in the studio, I was kind of tired. When the person I was sposed to go with changed plans, I just chilled. Now the date is set for Saturday matinee (times are hard out here, haha).

Speaking of money, apparently I have less than what I thought. That's never a good thing. Looks like July is going to be a struggle month. But at less two trips to Crestview are in the works. Independence Day weekend and then UFC 100 featuring the Brock Lesnar fight. Can't wait for both of those.

And now, for my two cents:

Say what you want about Micheal Jackson, the man made some damn good music back in the day. I still jam out to him every now and then and I remember loving his song in Free Willy, haha. But the man, not the entertainer, was a dirty guy. Is this going to be about how he should be remembered? No, that is up to you. Everybody has an opinion and they are entitled to it. I just hope I don't offend anybody with mine, which is this: Nobody knew him, so why are there people saying they are sad and are going to cry? My friend said she turned on BET 106th and Park and people were balling in the audience. I just don't get it. I loved Heath Ledger as an actor, still do, but I didn't want to cry when he died. I didn't know him. The only time I came close to feeling sad when a celebrity died is when Eddie Guerrero passed away. Yes, I realize I am giving away that I am a wrestling fan, but his was actually sad. He was a man who was down on his luck at one point but he pulled himself together and got out of it. And that night, it showed all his friends on there balling, and tribute videos that yea it did get to me. But the man who brought us Thriller and stand up comedians an endless supply of jokes? While sad, it's not that emotional. Like I said, everybody is entitled to thier opinion, this is just mine. Maybe I should have put this more elegantly, or just plain better, but it's late, and like I said... tired all week.
Random lyric of the day:

So you stand on the corner
Where the angels sit
And you think to yourself,
"This is it, this is it
This is all that I have
All I can stand
Is this air in my lungs
And this coin in my hand"
That you tossed in the air
And I fell, and I fell
All the way to the bottom
Of the well, of the well
Like those soft little secrets
That you tell, that you tell
To yourself, when you think
No one's listening to, well

  1. I'll probably be seeing a Sunday matinee of Transformers as well, haha! Gotta go with what I can barely afford!

    As far being emotional over a celebrity's death, I guess it depends on the person. There are a number of reasons as to why someone would cry about the death of a celebrity, and it a lot of the time, it ISN'T because of who they were as a person, but how their work touched those who witnessed it.

    A former friend of mine cried when Heath Ledger died as well as Michael Cuccione (you may not know who he was, haha, he was in the fake boyband 2Ge+her), but even though I liked both of them, I didn't cry about it. My mother and aunts were far more emotional over the death of Michael Jackson than I was. They grew up listening to his music back when he was in the Jackson 5 and that was a big part of their generation.

    Actually, now that I think about it, I don't know if I've ever cried when a celebrity has died, but I do understand why some people would.

  2. I've never been particularly moved by a celebrity's death...which maybe explains why I was kind of callous about MJ.

  3. Oh, and there is nothing wrong with wrestling! I'm not a fan, but my partner is. I think it's misunderstood - few fans think it's real. It's athletic comedy and sports satire, and it's not unsophisticated.

  4. Where I live the world news literally stopped so that they could show the outside of the hospital live. I feel bad for his kids since their own mother gave up custody. However I don't think it deserved to usurp everything else that happened in the world that day. Yes it was sudden and unexpected, but from what the media has reported in the past you are correct and he wasn't a good man. He was on trial multiple times for child molestation. Although never convicted that two times more then any person should.

  5. About MJ...I feel the same way. All over the place I am seeing people on FB & Twitter saying they are in tears over his death. But like you, I say why? You didn't know him. Yes I know he was the King of Pop and he influenced a lot of people, but he hasn't actually done anything in the last several years. Also, if it were anyone else who was largely suspected of molesting children, people would be rejoicing that the guy was gone. Not crying. Just my 2 cents.

  6. @lovelila:
    thanks for your comment. I went and checked out your blog, but I don't know how to follow it with the whole blogspot/wordpress thing, but I would like to. I guess I will just have to watch for it on the girl's blog roll. And also, I loved the n2gether thing, i didn't know he died? Learn something new every day...

    @RMJ:
    thanks for the reassurance about wrestling. Athletic comedy and sports satire, I really like that. It's a lot better than saying "it's my Grey's Anatomy, chill out" haha

    @Natalie:
    Yeah, I didn't touch on that, but it's crazy about the media attention. I remember when Montel Williams went on some show and said he was sad about Heath Ledger but there are soldiers dying everyday in Iraq. It was kinda cold, but he had a good point.

    @Cassie:
    I also forgot to point that out. If he would have passed away at the height of his career, it might be a different story. But honestly, and this is going to be sound messed up, but he could have died three years ago and no one would have noticed.

  7. Ah yes, the Blogspot/Wordpress thing does create an issue, haha! :)

    I actually remembered a time that I did cry when a celeb died. It was when Dom DeLuise died not too long ago. I'd started thinking about all these movies I'd LOVED as a kid (Oliver and Company, the Fievel movies, A Troll in Central Park) and how hearing his voice always made me think "It's Tiger!" (you know, Fievel? lol), and it just made me sad for a little while.

  8. Everyone gets that why every once and while, you have to rest.

    While I'm sad that Michael Jackson is dead but I'm not going to sit and cry. He will be missed in the music world but he left us with enough number one hits to remember him by.

  9. I was more upset about Farrah! MJ totally stole her thunder, I agree that MJ was probably more famous, but I mean they should have evened out the coverage a little more I think.

  10. Sorry, I'm seriously late to the party on this one :)

    I think people's reactions to celebrities' deaths are so individual - some fans are really attached to their idols, and they can be pretty shattered when their favourite celebrity dies unexpectedly.

    As far as the whole Michael Jackson thing goes, I suppose everyone has their own take on the issue. I can't say that I was deeply upset, but the constant news coverage and kinda intrusive way that everything has been investigated started to piss me off a bit. Whatever he was like during life, give the man a break and let him go with a bit of dignity!

    Oh yeah - I saw Transformers on Wednesday! (I have to confess that I was a bit disappointed... But it was fun watching Megan Fox's compact boobies bouncing on screen in like every second shot!) Let us know what you thought of it :)
