If you are new, then one thing to know about me is that I am a college radio DJ. This is only important when it gets close to Wednesdays (the day I go on) and especially when fall semester starts again. This summer is kind of lazy -- I have only done one show -- but in the fall when everyone comes back it should be interesting. One day, we took the camera in the studio and snapped this lovely pic:
Now, it looks like im singing or gettin ready to rap, but actually I was just trying to "look hard." All I do is introduce the music. And speaking of the music, this is where you guys come in.
My show is called "All Things Rock" because that's basically what I play -- all things in the genre of rock. I have literally played Coldplay and Underoath in the same show before. It's how I get down. Sometimes I have themes (in the past I have had acoustic shows, an all female show, and warped tour artists as examples). But tomorrow, I don't really have a theme. I was going to play a bunch of screamo because A Day To Remember and Chiodos tracks came to Rock Band, but I think I am going to wait till July when Warped Tour makes its way to Atlanta. So I need your help.
I usually have a group on facebook, but i'm trying to keep my facebook/myspace world separate from my blogspot world, so consider you guys my special group. In that group I ask for suggestions on what to play and what not. Well this week, I have the bands in mind. I just need your suggestions for songs.
The only song I know for sure I am going to play is Linkin Park's new song. If I go on after my roommate, I will play Are You In? by Incubus (explanation: my roommate is an actual DJ, with turntables and everything. He may or may not come in tomorrow. On a normal schedule, he goes on before I do, but we may move around tomorrow and he might go on after me). But those are the only two, I have locked. The following are bands I would like to play. Like I said, there is no theme to tomorrow's show, but I guess nothing too crazy or nothing way soft. Kind of in the middle. Only restriction: it has to fall under the category the umbrella of rock (meaning no hip hop and stuff) and that it has to be clean, or radio friendly. So here are the bands I have in mind:
Green Day (off their newest album)
Taking Back Sunday (also off newest album)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs (and also off newest album)
Franz Ferdinand
MGMT
Shiny Toy Guns
Kings of Leon
The Black Keys
Manchester Orchestra
Anberlin
Augustana
The Academy Is...
Jack's Mannequin
Cage the Elephant
All American Rejects
The Shins
White Stripes (or Raconteurs)
Cold War Kids
Toxic Airbourne Event
Gym Class Heroes
Head Automatica
The Hush Sound
The Killers
Minus the Bear
Pendulum
New Found Glory
Silversun Pickups
The Sounds
So there they are. I may play more bands than that, I may play less. I only have two hours. But if you could, offer suggestions on which song to play from 1 band, 3 bands, or all of them if you have the time. Suggest anybody else if you like, though if I don't already have them, I may not have time to get them. Tell your friends, your family, your dog to suggest. After all, this is going out to people, so why not have it be people suggested?
Oh, and if you wanna listen in, we stream online. Although i'm not sure what exact time I will go on, I know my roommate and I will be on air from 5-8, central time (if you hear some club type stuff, that means he is on). The link is at wegl.auburn.edu and just click on streaming.
Thanks ahead of time!
The Killers - Believe Me Natalie
ReplyDeleteI dig the title for obvious reasons. =) It's off of their first album.
MUSE!!!! (can you tell I like them?) Either City of Delusion or Butterflies and Hurricanes. Cold War Kids opened for them at MSG two years ago. Amazing concert. ;)
ReplyDeleteKings of Leon: Skip em and play Charlotte Sometimes version!
ReplyDeleteAnberlin: Always love Godspeed
Augustana: Sweet and Low, just so catchy!
The Academy Is...: tough one, but Neighbors, I just love it.
Jack's Mannequin: (seeing them Saturday!) Into the Airwaves.
Cage the Elephant: Gotta stick with Ain't No Rest for the Wicked.
All American Rejects: Mona Lisa
Gym Class Heroes: Taxi Driver, I love to find all the band names!
The Hush Sound: Wine Red
New Found Glory: Don't Let her Pull you down.
Alright, I don't want to do your job ;)
Man! Jeanette's a hard act to follow...
ReplyDeleteI'll just put a pimp in for an incredible Aussie band...
Wolfmother: More toward the psychadelic 70s type rock (think Zeppelin)... Which I like... They're not together anymore and only released one album a few years ago, but I shit you not, they are fucking awesome. Oh, and they had a song featured in The Hangover - 'The Joker and The Thief' - if you want a nice tie-in)
I'm totally going to listen to your show!
And HOT photo! Ha ha ha!
So for the first time ever, i'm going to try this replying thing...
ReplyDelete@Natalie:
I checked out that song (even though it was a shameless plug for your name, haha) and I really liked it. I have never gotten any of their cd's, just random songs so thanks for that
@Lola:
I actually meant to put Muse on the list. Thanks for giving me those tracks to check out
@jeanette:
wow, that's what I'm talking about. I will take a lot of those into consideration (our first EVER dispute - the song Neighbors by TAI... i just never got into it). But holy crap you are going to see Jack's Mannequin??? I saw them on Warped Tour last year and they are GREAT
@the girl:
They broke up? I didn't know that. What I do know is that I jam the crap out to Joker and the Thief on Rock Band. That is seriously one of my favorite songs ever. Easily top 67, haha. I will represent for Australia. I'm going to hold you on your word to tune in, I just have no idea what the time difference is
Oh have you heard of this band called Band of skulls???
ReplyDeleteCheck them out!
New Slang - The Shins
ReplyDeleteMona Lisa - All American Rejects
Propane Nightmares - Pendulum
Painted By Numbers - The Sounds
Le Disko - Shiny Toy Guns
also an outside recommendation...
I won't let you down - The subways
GAH! Mr. O! Bad news!
ReplyDeleteI effed up the time difference and missed your show by an hour... So sorry. (Also, I am seriously bad with technology of any kind, although this is not a good excuse).
I've finally figured out, thanks to the miracle of the internet, that when it's 8pm on Wednesday your time, it's about 11am on Thursday my time. Should be able to swing about half an hour of quality listening in between classes...
Hope it went well anyway!
Much love to you, my friend
Oh, and keep doing the reply thing... Love to know what you're thinking about our comments...
ReplyDelete@Melissa:
ReplyDeleteI have heard of them... on your blog, haha. When I listened to them, I was like "this sounds familiar". They got played :)
@Faker:
Came in last minute and had great suggestions. It was too late to get the subways track (i was actually in the studio when I read it) but I changed the sounds song I was going to play, you gave me confidence about pendulum and I couldn't get new slang, but I did play some Shins
@the girl:
the fact that you even thought of it, wow, that's awesome. And a crazy time difference. But don't worry, you will still get to hear it if you please. That is also the miracle of internet. :)
Oh, and as you can see, your reply comment has been noted
