Music Sunday Bonus Post #2 of 4

Confused as to what's going on? Check yesterday's post here.

Like I said, I'm holding off on my Anberlin story, but I will say today's selection wasn't that hard as it discusses elements I am still going through, and frankly, I bet we have all been through. There, that's a small glimpse into why I've been busy lately (or it will will be once you read on).

Today's album is "Cities." And while I have a few favorite tracks on there, it was a no-brainer to pick "Dismantle. Repair" as today's pick.

"One last glance from a taxi cab
Images scar my mind
Four weeks've felt like years
Since your full attention was all mine
The night was young and so were we
Talked about life, God, death, and your family
Didn't want any promises,
Just my undivided honesty, and you said

Oh oh, things are gonna change now for the better
Oh oh, things are gonna change, oh, they're gonna change

I am the patron saint of lost causes
A fraction of who I once believed (change)
only a matter of time
Opinions I would try and rewrite
If life had background music playing your song
I've got to be honest, I tried to escape you
But the orchestra plays on, and they sang

Oh oh, things are gonna change now for the better
Oh oh, things are gonna change

Hands, like secrets, are the hardest thing to keep from you
Lines and phrases, like knives, your words can cut me through
Dismantle me down (repair)
You dismantle me
You dismantle me

Give me time to prove
Prove I want the rest of yours (prelude)
Call this a prelude to a lifetime of you
It's not that I hang on every word
I hang myself on what you repeat
It's not that I keep hanging on
I'm never letting go"

  1. I'm keeping my promise and have listened to both yesterday's and today's. I only listened to each one once - my conclusion so far is that I liked today's song better than yesterday's. To be honest, I can't remember what yesterday's song sounded like. Not that it was bad, but didn't stick in my mind. This one - Dismantle. Repair will probably get stuck in my head.

As for your highlighted lyrics - I can pretty much gather what's going on right now with you...

  2. YES! So I totally agree with your song choice- BB WIN. Because that one? Is the one I jam to when walking.

BUT I? Have to correct you. Their second album, released in 2005 was "Never Take Friendship Personal". "Cities" was released 2007. My favorite off of the NTFP album is a huge toss yet again because I love them all. But the title track is great as is "The Symphony of Blase". BUT I have to give a huge prop to "A Day Late" which I have always loved but when I got the "Lost Songs" album from a certain someone...I fell in love with the version of "A Day Late" on there. I love that song and I can definitely identify knowing that you'd probably be close to perfect...if circumstances were different. :)

  3. @Allison:
I'm glad you liked it and I'm glad you can see where I'm at right now...

    @Sara:
We have had a miscommuication. I'm not going in order of albums that were released, I'm going in order of my favorites -- leading up to the one I selected as the #17 spot for Sunday. It was a just coincidence that the the first one I chose happened to be the first album they released. Trust me, I know my Anberlin information but I'm glad that you are quick to keep me in check ;)

  4. Well in that case I can let this go. Because so far...I'm in agreement. Phew. Here I thought you really WERE losing your mojo and that an intervention actually was needed. Which is fabulous because at the present time- I have no luggage suitable to haul blueberry muffins.

And is my BB going emo on me?? Don't go emo. :) But if you do let me know and I'll hook you up with some black eyeliner. LOL.

  5. Haha there you go again with the "Go ahead Matt, post what you want" and then making fun of me for doing so ;)

I think you need to stay tuned for the rest of the week.

  6. Totally not making fun of you. I call this "showing concern". :)

Don't tease me about the rest of this week. I'm already acting like a retard that you are doing an Anberlin theme AND that the new record is coming very, very soon. What if I have a faulty hear and don't even know it?? Should I start walking around with a note that says "if I'm holding my cell phone and had a heartache- blame Mr. O"? Because I totally can do that. :)

  7. Cities is by far my Favorite Anberlin cd. I did not like New Surrender and feel that they are on a down hill spiral. I really hope that their new cd pulls me out of the funk.

Having said that I really like Stephen and they things that he has done (as in volunteering and humanitarian work.)

I don't know if you have seen but he has a blog at modesty.blogspot.com under the Modesty Writers Guild. It is pretty good.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you sir. While New Surrender had more pop elements, lyrically it was still some of the best stuff I had heard. And if the few tracks off the new cd are any indication, I think we are on a good slope. But that's your opinion versus mine, they are allowed to differ.

Thanks for heads up about the blog, I will check it out.
