I'm a Loser

No, seriously. I lost.

Girl Talk dropped a new mashup mix a week ago and I wanted to spice things up a little. I felt like someone should appreciate his work and the fact that he brings so many genres into the mix. So I placed a friendly challenge over to Sara to see who could identify the most samples.

I put it out to her because she is someone I know is just like me and listens to ALL kinds of music. I thought it would be fun to pick them out and truly see how many we can find (since some he literally drops for a second).

After the initial challenge, there were words of "you're going to kick my ass but I'll try" from her side and I have to say - I think I was hustled.

She tried to intimidate me on my facebook wall saying she had found 69 samples. After reaching 70 by around the 8th track of 12, I thought "no way" and told her to listen again. She did and came up with 120.

After it was all said and done, I only had 95.

Though we never put a "prize" on this since it was a challenge and not a wager, I will humbly accept my loss and will announce her prize here. Since I lost by 25, and have been a ghost on other people's blogs, I will commit to 25 straight comments on her world of organized chaos.

Now if you will excuse me, I need to go sit on the loser table...

  1. Speaking of challenges....Scott Pilgrim....comic books...

    Come on, Ramona Flowers could have them on your doorstep in less than 48 hours I imagine!

    Good effort on the mashup challenge.

  4. Thank you... thank you! I would have stopped at 69 had you not continually texted me to tell me to listen to it again and were taunting me with how well you were doing. But no- my ass stayed up until THREE AM to listen to it again. So you kind of did it to yourself bb. ;) And frankly? I'm surprised that you didn't blast me because the only thing that saved me were the 80s flashbacks and the classic rock. Not many people can sing Simon & Garfunkel's "Cecelia". LOL. :)

  5. when i listened to it i went NUTS because he used like 2 seconds of a song i love and i was hoping that the chorus would drop, but it was just that little blip and gone...of course i can't remember what it was now, but it seriously vexed me at the time

  6. @Allison:
    This challenge was free haha. And there is actually a somewhat-accurate tracklisting out there and he lists what samples he used.

    @Lisa:
    It's a guy who goes by the stage name Girl Talk. It's like his fourth mashup cd where it's about 50 minutes of music, but contain over 100 samples. The challenge was just something I thought of - who could point out the most.

    @Sara:
    I distinctly remember NOT taunting you with how well I was doing. My texts were merely "dang i should know this" and "are you sure you only had 69?" type stuff. The only thing that may have been taunting was when I told you I had 100, but that was also in the tone "maybe you need to check again."

    @Jsov:
    His mixes can be a bit frustrating at times haha
