The Good:
*February 7th is one week away from Valentine's Day. This is only good because it keeps me informed. Whenever I was in a relationship, I knew I had one week to go. And working at a flower shop, Vday means only one thing: HOURS! Not to be a sad story, but we have been really slow since the economy fell through. And I am only a delivery driver, so I only work when there are orders to be delivered. There have honestly been weeks where I have gotten like three hours on a paycheck. But Cupid's holiday never fails to deliver the goods.
*2/14/10 will be special for a couple of reasons.
1) The Saints won the Superbowl. Now, if you know me you know that the Denver Broncos are my team, but New Orleans is my roommate's/best friend's team. And I pretty much fed off of his excitement so it was great to see him celebrate and celebrate with him when they picked off Manning to pretty much seal the deal. My sister joked around and said that I should buy him the stuff that says "New Orleans 2010 Champions" for Valentine's Day.
2) I already declared that I watch wrestling, but to go even further I am as big a fan as some are for baseball. As in, knowing every stat and ridiculous information that people shouldn't know. Well, I get this info because of a website I go to. That website said they needed new columnists and I needed to get some practice in before graduation so I sent a sample in and they posted it and gave me a spot. I now have to post a column every week. I would put up a link, but I'm pretty sure none of you want to read about it. But still, it's pretty cool.
The Bad:
*Valentine's Day is a week away. Fuck.
*My ex-girlfriend's birthday is today. There was a time when I was seriously considering shooting her a text or something, but I thought against it. I've talked to a few people within the blogosphere and my IRL friends know the story, but man it's so hectic. But when you are with someone for so long (nearly 4 years altogether), dates like that start to get stuck in your head. That's why, even though I heard nothing from her, I still think she thought me when I turned 23 back in December.
The Beautiful:
*Another one of my friend's had a birthday today, but it is a whole different story. I usually talk of my friend Shedrick on here, who we lost in November of 2005. But I'm not sure if I have mentioned Cynthia, who we lost in April of 2006. But I don't want to end this on a sad note, I want to have it end on a happy note. Especially since today was her birthday, so that makes me think of good times.
Good times like this:

Random lyric of the day:
I've been spending way too long checking my tongue in the mirror
And bending over backwards just to try to see it clearer
But my breath fogged up the glass
And so I drew a new face and laughed
I guess what I'm be saying is there ain't no better reason
To rid yourself of vanity and just go with the seasons
It's what we aim to do
Our name is our virtue
I hateee Valentine's Day, but I am happy that the holiday will bring you extra work hours.:) Congrats on the column-- that's a huge deal, and I'm sure it will be a really fun experience since you love the topic anyway. Baseball is my sport-- 10000x better than wrestling, sorry! :)
ReplyDeleteSo excited that the Saints won, but today sort of turned out to be a shitty day..
Love that photo of you and your friend-- you can tell you guys were having such a good time by her cheerful smile. :)
We all have days like this.. Days that you will always remember, forever. Good and bad.
ReplyDeleteAugust 15th, 2002: the day that my brother and I moved in with my Dad. (:
December 27th, 2006: the day my great-grandpa passed away. ): First great-grandparent of mine to die.
I am not a fan of Valentines Day either. Maybe because I've never really done anything on Valentines Day or had a boyfriend during Valentines Day. But really it's just not my thing.
I hope you have a fun one.. I will be spending the morning of my VDay bowling in a tournament.
PS. That picture of you.. wasn't really expecting you to look like that. But then again what I expect of people is never what it actually turns out to be. But nice to see a picture of you finally (although I probably could have looked back in your archives a bit..) (:
@Lisa:
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, I would have never linked you with baseball. I don't know why. I'm sorry you had a shitty Saints day, but thanks for your words about the pic!
@Kayla:
Thank you for sharing your days, Dec 27th is kind of weird because that is my sister's birthday. If you stick around here long enough you will hear plenty about her. But yea, if you were ever curious to more pics, just click on the tag "pictures." And that picture was taken in 2005, so I look *slightly* different now. But good luck in your tournament!
it is always better to remember the good times than the bad.
ReplyDeletecongrats on the writing job! that's really cool.
Congrats on the writing gig! That is awesome! I love that picture of you and Cynthia..I think I still own a shirt like that, but I never had a matching hat because I look ridiculous in hats. But she could totally rock it. And you're adorable as usual.
ReplyDeleteLove the lyric-- I'm just now getting into Jason Mraz and I really dig the songs "if it kills me" and "details in the fabric".
january 19, 2002- the real day my uncle david died (official death date is may 5 or so. We don't even recognize that one. He really died in january in our eyes)
9/6/05- olivia bday, 4/4/08 jackson's bday
AND...I've never had a good valentines day. Ever. I've always done for others but have never had anything nice done to/for me on that day. I might be buying myself flowers today so I don't look like the only idiot in the building without flowers. :)
I'm against Valentine's Day. If you are with someone it makes you think that you have to make some huge show of love which is pointless and if you are alone then you just feel bad about yourself.
ReplyDeleteI usually go out the day after and buy myself a heart box of chocolate for 75% off. I then keep it in my desk. That right there is the only Valentine's tradition I keep to.
Just think of it like this, if you're single, you don't have to spend a lot of time/effort/money into a girl.
ReplyDeleteI miss Cynthia. & That was a sweet little ending by the way.
@JSjov:
ReplyDeletethanks for the support! And yea, the memories are what keep us going
@Sara:
thank you for the support also, and adorable? I will take it, thanks. And you would not be an idiot, but you do deserve flowers. Just sayin. And your kids have awesome music tastes, so they deserve awesome birthdays
@Natalie:
My dad does the same thing with Christmas stuff, never thought of doing it with Vday. I will have to look into it
@j:
good point, both of them. No time/effort/money for me, probably just some movies. Or Heroes. It's what I do.
Dearest Mr O,
ReplyDeleteI'm not a very big believer in Valentine's day. I never understood a day where obligation always outweighed meaning. To me it's much more meaningful when you get a surprise on a completely random day. That's when you know they are truly thinking about you. When you have to do something, it takes it down a notch.
And this must be a tough time of year for you. I actually just lost a good friend last week and she was a big fan of valentine's day. So we have decided to throw a little valentines day party in the morning at work, in celebration of her life. She would have wanted all of us to smile and be thankful for the life we have. I'm sure Cynthia would feel the same about you remembering her now. Hang in there, luv!
Dude- "adorable" is mad props. And yes- no flowers at my work means 9 hours of constant, "Wow, you didn't get flowers? That sucks. I got flowers. You can come look at mine" No thanks. Bitches. I'll buy my own and write something filthy and "anonymous" on the card. Take that hoes. ;)
