I think this is the first Christmas I can actually say the above statement.
I arrived in South Dakota Sunday night and saw the snow on the ground and wondered if I would see some actually fall. Well, a couple days of waiting, I got my wish. Though, that whole "be careful what you wish for" phrase might come true as it is expected to be a pretty bad storm coming through (we have been hearing the wind slam against the house all day).
It started getting really bad in the evening. I went to the commissary with my brother in law to get all the essentials on the chance the power goes out and the wind literally almost knocked me over. We joked that it was like the snow was bitchslapping us in the face.
Is it bad that I am actually kind of excited for a storm? I guess it's just that for me being from the south, we go through hurricanes every year. Sure, I've only gone through two major ones, but I have still gone through them. I guess it would just be kind of cool to experience what the other side of the country goes through.
Before it got too too bad, we took some pics and videos. Pretty soon I wanna do a post with the pics and some more videos, as well as an update to what this blog will be shaping up like in 2010, but for now, I will leave you with this.
Couple explanations:
*We kinda just put some clothes on (I had woke up not too much earlier) and I didn't grab a belt, so that was kinda difficult.
*At one point, my sister saw a rabbit and that's what she was trying to get me to see
*I know I need warmer clothes. It's just for the amount of time that I am actually outside I am being cheap right now.
Random lyric of the day:
There's a little red bridge with a view of the sun
with a lake, I recommend such a setting site.
And the thousands of stars, come out thousands of times.
And we can go only if you believe, only if you believe.
That snow is nothing lol West Michigan when we get lake effect snow it's ridiculous... it can get past my waist easily. But seeing people while they see snow for the first or second time is awesome.
ReplyDeleteGaaaah that part of the country is ridiculous! I have family in N and S Dakota and also Minnesota and oh my gooooodness those places get COLD. There is no way you can be there for more than a few days w/out seeing snow fall. And yeah, the blizzards and tornados up there make the south look like pussies,
ReplyDeletejust sayin...
If i didn't know you were dumb already...I do now.
ReplyDeleteDon't be a pansy! We've gotten 6 inches in 2 hours- THIS is winter. And it's not even cold, it's only 5 degrees ABOVE zero. :) Our Xmas Eve is basically cancelled because we can't risk driving out to butt fuck nowhere Wisconsin and getting stuck at my in-laws. That's like the gate to the 7th ring of hell. I'll stay home and feast on PB&J sandwiches for dinner.
ReplyDeleteyou guys are going to have forgive this California born and Alabama raised guy for going crazy about this snow. I must acknowledge that I have no idea what Winter is really like in the north, and it's really unpredictable considering the wind blew against the house all day yesterday and today... nothing. With that said,
ReplyDelete@jeanette:
the waist... that's crazy. I'm still getting used to stepping in the snow with my shoes because I am being too cheap to buy boots, haha.
@Jaime:
you are writing from the south, how are you gonna call us out? Haha. Snow is bad, don't get me wrong, but I will take a blizzard over a hurricane any day, but that's just me. On a side note, I'm glad to see your presence back in the blogging world.
@jme:
I'm sorry, but I just wanna say that as we were watching that I said to Laurie "jme's gonna yell at me for this" Thanks for being a good friend.
@Sara:
like I said above, it's just different for me cuz where I am usually at it rains all the damn time so it's cool to get a different form or precipitation. I honestly remember wearing shorts and a t-shirt one Christmas in Bama because it was so hot. So, is it basically a good thing you are snowed in? 7th ring of hell does not sound very fun, but snacking on PB&J certainly does (strawberry jelly for me please)
