I first got into BEP back in 2005 and have had an on again/off again like with them. Fergie has also gone in and out of my celebrity crushes because sometimes she is smokin hot and others she is not that fun to look at.
When "Boom Boom Pow" came out, my sister and I jammed to it. I acquired the cd, but after one listen my response was "eh" and that was it. Then "I Gotta Feeling" came out and once again it was cool to sing at football games when they played it at the stadium, but I never listened to the song on my own. Then I heard "Imma Be" on the radio and bobbed my head, but once again nothing more.
However, lately I've been hearing "Rock That Body" and I don't know what it is about that song, but I can't stop listening. I've probably played it like 5 times today. And then I discovered this video.
I'm not supposed to like this. And I struggle because the alternative-rock loving musical side of me wants to be like "that damn autotune is taking over and every song sounds the same blah blah blah" but I just end up... dancing. Or trying to at least.
Sidenote: I do listen to more than just alternative. In fact, I'm waiting for Lupe Fiasco's new cd to come out, Jay Z is one of the best musicians I have ever heard and I have two hip hop cds coming up on my Music Sunday countdown.
But back to the Black Eyed Peas. This video is great. It has a concept, the two songs mash together perfectly and Fergie is bringin sexy back.
So let me indulge in my guilty pleasure and I will go back to hating on Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus and Ke$ha.
*Because I do hate Ke$ha. The fact that I took a couple extra seconds to find the dollar sign to type her name makes me feel like I sold out. So thank the Internet when a fellow blogger posted this gem:
Thanks for the guest blog post and I'm a huge peas fan. Also I don't like Ke$ha persay, but if I had to choose her or Gaga I'm going to go with her any day, because she seems like someone I'd hang out with and not completely bat shit crazy.
ReplyDeleteBut that's just me!
haha, don't be embarrassed about music that you like! i know for a fact that people might think that i have a few trashy/stupid tracks on my itunes but you can suck it if you try to judge me for them!
ReplyDeleteblack eyed peas are too intentionally catchy and repetitive for my taste, but i did really like their elephunk cd when it first came out.
I really like Fergie but I kinda feel the same about the band as a whole, it's alright, but it's nothing I would really think to add to ipod. I do however have some Miley Cyrus (don't hate!).
ReplyDeleteOkay - let's agree to disagree - I have no love for the Peas.
ReplyDeleteAnd Justin Beiber needs to go the f%@# away - I apologize on behalf of Canada for him.
I just got back from some lovely patio drinks (apologies for this comment).
Heads up,,,next week's playlist on my blog will be about that.
I want it on the record that I am currently on vacation and YET..I'm checking to see if my BB posted anything. And I've been rewarded with a non-sunday post. ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd I can go on forever of this but I'll keep it as short as I usually do. ;) OK- so I will admit...I kind of like Ke$ha. Kinda of. I own the cd..I sing along to it...and sometimes I wish I could party at a rich dude's house. And honestly- I'm ashamed I even threw that in there.
BEP-- take it or leave it. I like Fergie's voice but her face scares me. It's like dammit plastic surgeons- if you fuck it up, you CAN'T fix it. But from face down she is hot. Fantastic body. Douche of a husband, scary face, but hot body. I have the cd as well and thought it was underwhelming at best. I did like "Imma Be" but frankly the rest of the cd should have been sent back for more work. AND I have to say- I cannot stand Will.I.Am. Anything he does I seem to not like. He seems like a complete douche and it's like he is trying WAY TOO HARD to turn out fabulous hip hop. Which comes off as desperate.
Biebs. LOL. You really have no idea what kind of restraint I use to NOT sign you up for Bieber Fan Clubs.
I want to end this with I hope you don't ever pgeon hole yourself as a lover/enthusiast as primarily one type of music. I have a varied love of music and can jam to almost everything. Someone once told me that my music collection is schizophrenic and I think that is fabulous. ;)
Back to vacation love!
@jeanette:
ReplyDeletewould we still be friend if I told you I have played Lady Gaga tracks on Rock Band?
@Jsjov:
Oh, there are a few tracks in my library I could be judged for. But eff any one who does, right?
@Jaime:
I saw the new Miley Cyrus video last night and I just felt... ashamed. Disgusted? Not really sure, but it wasn't great emotions
@Allison:
Looking forward to a patio drinks post :)
@Sara:
Thank you for your review of you how much you hate these guys haha. Honestly, I just the thought the entire ten minute video was fun. And a fresh concept?
But yea, that's why I started veering off talking about my tastes. My love is alternative music. But I have everything in my library from Tim McGraw to Dr. Dre to Tiesto to John Legend. There is more variety than that, the point is just to say that I'm not a pigeon ;)
And for a sober comment:
ReplyDeleteI have several guilty pleasure artists in my iTunes. Justin Timberlake is one, and I have a couple Lady GaGa songs that I like to run to.
But in general I am out of touch when it comes to top 40 pop songs.
glad to know i'm not the only one out there with a secret love for the black eyed peas! it took me awhile to admit to myself that they are kind of awesome because there is that part of my brain that says "you should not like this music."
ReplyDeletethere's a time and a place for intelligent music, but there's also a time and a place for music that just makes you wanna dance. :)
of course, i do still have *some* musical taste - i totally hate ke$ha. everything about her music is terrible.
I like the Black Eyed Peas, even though I kinda hate Fergie. And, I know you're gonna hate on this, but I LIKE Justin Bieber. [& you probably secretly do, too.]
ReplyDeleteDear Jamie-
ReplyDeleteI think we should conspire on something called Operation Bieber. I mean we've got loads of time to figure out something FABULOUS for M's birthday. I think you need to confrm to all of us readers that he doesn't have a Bieber shrine somewhere. ;)
@Allison:
ReplyDeleteJustin Timberlake needs to come out with a new cd, stat.
@lalalauren:
I love your name.

@j & Sara:
Difference between Ke$ha and the Beib is that I hate their music taking over the airwaves. However, I have nothing against Justin Beiber as a person but I just wish k e dollar sign HA would go away. But the kids nowadays seem to love the idiotic stuff she puts out so she probably won't
